Bucovina Offroad Challenge 2011 (BORC)

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , on 28 May 2011 by Watcher Romano

Last weekend I was supposed to compete in the first stage of the National Offroad Championship. Unfortunately, in order to be able to start in the race, a team needs to present at the start line the following: 1 (one) pilot, 1 (one) copilot and 1(one) vehicle. In my case, when the start time came, I was 1 pilot and 1 car short :)

Therefore, I can only show photos like any other member of the press:

If you like offroad, this blog is a good resource of photos. Take a look around. Also, there is more to it, including travel photos from all around the world, not just Romanian muddy forests :) . If you like what you see, make sure that you have the wonders of technology  ( RSS and  email ) deliver new posts directly to you the minute they become available!

Red Italian Cars Rule

Posted in LifeStyle, Travel with tags , , , , , , on 11 April 2011 by Watcher Romano

So what if it is and old, uncomfortable clunker? It will always turn heads, and the Abarth sign makes you think “racing” immediately.

This I think is a beautiful example of a well kept classic car:

This red gem was shot in the Piraeus Marina, in Piraeus Greece, during the NYE trip to Athens. There are more colorful photos in this series. Chem them out, as well as the colorful photos from other beautiful places around the world.

Slanic Offroad, track finding day

Posted in LifeStyle on 3 April 2011 by Watcher Romano

As many of you probably already know, on the 1st of May, my club has a traditional offroad meeting in Slanic Prahova. This year I have decided to be more involved in the track choice, so on Saturday we were off to Slanic to join some locals in an attempt to find some nice tracks. I think that with navigation involved this is going to be quite a nice offroad day, and if it rains it’s going to be a memorable one.

Ravine ascent

Ravine ascent

There are ravines, ascents, descents, rivers, a lot of lateral inclines, and some very effing narrow places, even hunchback hills, where the left wheels hang on one side of the hill and the right wheels are on the other side of the hill.

There is also a swamp crossing between two yards :O, which is a perfect place to take up pottery classes:

We also had a few opportunities to poke fun at English cars:

of course, this only because nothing serious happened ;)

In the end it was a beautiful day outdoors, a good way to recharge the batteries for a new ugly week of controls, enemies and other BS:

Chiojdu Offroad Fun

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , on 17 January 2011 by Watcher Romano

Saturday January 15th was this year’s first offroad trip for us, which is 9 days earlier start than last year. This year the weather was not so good for photos, but more appropriate for a day of hard work in the field:

Mind you, the small gap where it looks like we are winching on straight road, was continued with a 100 meters very steep fall…

I also made two movies during the day:

A bit of ballet:

and one showing the actual weather conditions (as well as the power of front and rear lockers):

Also, our good friend Razvanutza has some very nice videos from this trip. I’ll only show two of them, starring us, and leave you watch the others on his channel:

Unfortunately, the weather was bad enough and the day was short enough that we had to abandon the set course and had to return. Others have completed the whole track in november. We started in the opposite direction from them, but were only able to go this far.

If you like offroading, there are more posts about it here on watcher.ro. There is more than offroading to this blog though:  colorful pictures of beautiful interesting places can also be found galore. Check back often or use the RSSfeed or email subscription to get posts automatically delivered to you!

I already told you about this year’s last offroad event yesterday, so today I’ll only post two more videos, containing me evolving on the Open Track:

I start at 07:53 in this one:

Impotmoliada 2010

Sunday, December 12th, we participated in the second edition of “Impotmoliada”, organized near Bucharest by the ACS 4x4Bucuresti Club, self-proclaimed  ”The Rags” :)

The only thing to add about the event, besides what the pictures convey, is the relaxed friendly and fun atmosphere. Here are my pictures from the event:

Campulung Offroad Stage 2010

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on 18 October 2010 by Watcher Romano

I have just returned from the Campulung 2010 Offroad Championship Stage. Nothing interesting, very badly organized, bad lodging conditions (thank God we chose not to stay at the official hotel). The tracks were the opposite of what I like: they were quite easy, but dangerous. I prefer them to be difficult but not dangerous (to only have the risk of breaking the car, as opposed to dying).

We did pretty well in the first day, given that we lost 30 minutes with a flat tire and some other 15 on a wrong turn: we started 14th and arrived 8th. However, in the second day our winch broke when we needed it the most, so we had to be rescued by the Duster team (the maximum shame), and then had to abandon the race.

Here are some photos:

Offroad with X3M Ramnicu Valcea

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , on 10 October 2010 by Watcher Romano

I just got back from an offroad day with the special guys from X3M Offroad. We had a very nice day, with great a track: difficult, technical, but not dangerous: the worst you could do was break something, but nothing serious.

This is the official thread of the trip, and I took the liberty to show these pictures / photos of me in action:

Land Cruiser Fun

September the 18th was the birthday of a very good friend of mine, the infamous Stroe. We gathered at Ruxi’s place in Bran to celebrate his passing from the young to the not-anymore :-) With this occasion we also did a bit of offroading (softroading) :
