Red Italian Cars Rule

Posted in LifeStyle, Travel with tags , , , , , , on 11 April 2011 by Watcher Romano

So what if it is and old, uncomfortable clunker? It will always turn heads, and the Abarth sign makes you think “racing” immediately.

This I think is a beautiful example of a well kept classic car:

This red gem was shot in the Piraeus Marina, in Piraeus Greece, during the NYE trip to Athens. There are more colorful photos in this series. Chem them out, as well as the colorful photos from other beautiful places around the world.

Akropolis

Posted in Travel with tags , , , , , , on 1 February 2011 by Watcher Romano

As I was saying last week, I spent NYE10-11 in Athens. So I have to publish some photos from the Akropolis, right? It was a very interesting day, light-wise, so do not be surprised by the very different tonalities :

This is a panoramic shot caught going up the Akropolis hill. On the top right corner one can see Lykabettus Hill:

This is a joke just for Romanians: they placed the “I” the wrong way up :)

They misplaced the I in "doghnuts"

Only for Romanians: They misplaced the I in "doghnuts"

Once up we were approached (and hustled) by a guide. We tried to negotiate for some time but in the end agreed to pay her fee. It was one of the very few things worth the money :) . Very interestingly, I have for the first time seen a good use of the technology that makes possible to look at one sheet of paper in an angle and see one picture and then tilt it and see another picture. It was used to show how things used to look as opposed to how they look now. I think it is the only time I saw something interesting done with this technology !

The first thing that one sees when visiting the Akropolis is the Amphiteater:

The old Museum entrance was a good opportunity for a HDR photo :

And then the light was back to warm and mellow as I took this shot from the terrace of the New Museum :

I hope you already noticed, but most of the pictures are in HD, so feel free to use them as monitor wallpaper :) .

Constanta Landmarks – the Casino

Posted in Beautiful Romania, Travel with tags , , , , , , , on 11 August 2010 by Watcher Romano

I have just returned from an electrifying seaside holiday. I chose the Romanian seaside and our friend Dima was the person to help with this. Thank you again!  It’s gonna be impossible to forget this holiday ;-)

Romanians generally go to the seaside for the beach and night life. I did enjoy that also (and got some tan along with it) BUT I thought that if in a foregin country, I would have visited a lot. So I decided to also go and visit Constanta and it’s surroundings. I did reach Histria, Gura Portitei, Traian’s Tropy at Adamclisi, St. Andrew Monastery and the very special Dervent Monastery, so stay tuned for the following posts (via RSS or email ).

Until then however, let’s focus on today’s post: one of the most famous landmarks of Constanta is the seafront Casino. It was built in 1909 and still looks great. Here is some more info about it, but if you search Google for pictures, you will find that they are not doing it justice, so I felt I needed to have a take at this:

Curtea de Arges Cathedral

Posted in Beautiful Romania, Travel with tags , , , , , , , on 10 May 2010 by Watcher Romano

This impressive cathedral with it’s intricate carvings is home to the remains of St. Filofteia, to members the Romanian Royal Family and is the subject of the Mesterul Manole legend. So it’s a MUST SEE. As you can tell, I was lucky enough to get good light :-) . Enjoy:

Since we have this horrible weather today, I thought I’d post this picture shot during the summer in Budapest, showing the waterfront, some strong (trademarked :-P ) colors and the beauty of offshoring (look closely to see what I mean)

Although it’s Christmas and most of you are not online in this period, I don’t want to let the blog unattended for too long, so here is a dramatic vision of the Agapia monastery:
