Chiojdu Offroad Fun

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , on 17 January 2011 by Watcher Romano

Saturday January 15th was this year’s first offroad trip for us, which is 9 days earlier start than last year. This year the weather was not so good for photos, but more appropriate for a day of hard work in the field:

Mind you, the small gap where it looks like we are winching on straight road, was continued with a 100 meters very steep fall…

I also made two movies during the day:

A bit of ballet:

and one showing the actual weather conditions (as well as the power of front and rear lockers):

Also, our good friend Razvanutza has some very nice videos from this trip. I’ll only show two of them, starring us, and leave you watch the others on his channel:

Unfortunately, the weather was bad enough and the day was short enough that we had to abandon the set course and had to return. Others have completed the whole track in november. We started in the opposite direction from them, but were only able to go this far.

If you like offroading, there are more posts about it here on watcher.ro. There is more than offroading to this blog though:  colorful pictures of beautiful interesting places can also be found galore. Check back often or use the RSSfeed or email subscription to get posts automatically delivered to you!

Campulung Offroad Stage 2010

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on 18 October 2010 by Watcher Romano

I have just returned from the Campulung 2010 Offroad Championship Stage. Nothing interesting, very badly organized, bad lodging conditions (thank God we chose not to stay at the official hotel). The tracks were the opposite of what I like: they were quite easy, but dangerous. I prefer them to be difficult but not dangerous (to only have the risk of breaking the car, as opposed to dying).

We did pretty well in the first day, given that we lost 30 minutes with a flat tire and some other 15 on a wrong turn: we started 14th and arrived 8th. However, in the second day our winch broke when we needed it the most, so we had to be rescued by the Duster team (the maximum shame), and then had to abandon the race.

Here are some photos:

Land Cruiser Fun

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , , on 4 October 2010 by Watcher Romano

September the 18th was the birthday of a very good friend of mine, the infamous Stroe. We gathered at Ruxi’s place in Bran to celebrate his passing from the young to the not-anymore :-) With this occasion we also did a bit of offroading (softroading) :

New Expedition in the Capatanii Mountains

Posted in Beautiful Romania, LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on 28 June 2010 by Watcher Romano

After last year’s expedition I knew we had to come back for more. I have agreed with the White Wolves to make another attempt to find the way between Horezu and Curmatura Oltetului last Saturday, June 26th, 2010 AD :-) There is a lot to show, but for now I will only post some unedited videos ( HD video shot with a handheld Flip Camera)

And we reached the fitfh peak over 2000m high BY CAR in the past 12 months :-) – Nedei Peak . After that we went down to Curmatura Oltetului and stopped a bit to see the overflowing dam at Lake Petrimanu

In Ciugnetu we split into two groups. My group went to Valea Macesului and did Strategica once again da capo al fine:

We did go into a deep fog after Plaiul Poienilor, so the only shots we could take after this were at the end of Strategica, where some colleagues from other forums said there was a 4 m deep pool. We just HAD to stop and check. Razvanutza plays Moses:

There are several additional videos on my youtube channel.

I have to admit that video is not my thing, but I would also like to invite you to come back very soon (via RSS or email ) for photos from this trip into a wonderful area.

Targu Mures stage – movies

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , , , on 17 June 2010 by Watcher Romano

As you probably already know, I did participate in the second stage of the National Offroad Championship, held near Targu Mures, in Campu Cetatii. Unfortunately the car broke down again, this time more costly. I was very happy I was not the pilot :-D

Here are some movies I was able to shoot, especially during the Special Stages and the Trial:

11 April, soft offroad around Bucharest

Posted in LifeStyle with tags , , , , , , , , on 12 April 2010 by Watcher Romano

This Sunday I went on an expedition around Bucharest, lead by the infamous GPScu. There were some other 40 crazy guys just like me. We wandered around in the forest, bushes, fields, etc, managed to get a few nice shots, and then had a barbecue.  Here are a few photos and movies from this trip:

Leaota once again, more extreme this time

Posted in Travel with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 8 September 2009 by Watcher Romano

We found another way up to Leaota. This one took us up to a deserted sheepfold  near the top of Leaota 1 (that’s how the shepherds described it). It was raining heavily, and and the ascent was quite difficult: rocks, tree roots, mud, tight spots between trees, the works. 1 kilometer ascent in 2 hours. Nice track, huh?

Leaota Offroad

This weekend was ‘offroad sandwich’ weekend (‘offroad pe paine’). Saturday I got some ‘extreme’ action near Sinaia : the mud in the forest on Cumpatu was considerably more wet and deeper than expected. But then,on Sunday, I visited an area with landscapes rivaling Curmatura Oltetului and Transalpina: the Leaota Mountains in Dambovita County. It was a good opportunity for the KDJ120 Land Cruiser to be ‘broken in ‘ outside the asphalt.

Most of the action took place on a great scenery, posing little trouble (one just neede tot go slowly, because there were a lot of rocks). However, we did manage to find a trail into the forrest that gave us a lot of headaches. Definitely will visit again! Here’s why:
