The REAL Merry Cemetery

Everyone knows about the Merry Cemetery at Sapanta, but I found that experience quite sad (more about this in a future post). In the vicinity of Baia Mare, on the road to Cavnic, there is a rightward pointing indicator telling us about two wooden monasteries. I did not resist the temptation to take that road and I now congratulate myself. I found a very different church, with a true merry cemetery. The atmosphere was quiet and warm. (I did try very hard to find any other attribute than my initial “welcoming”).
I can only imagine how beautifully serene this place is at summer time. It really expresses the ‘in the shadow of a tree’ burial wish we hear in popular ballads.

Yes, I do realize that I have already shown you the last photo, but remember that I did hint to a larger post… So, If you want to get there and see for yourself, just go to Baia Mare, take the Sighetu Marmatiei exit to Baia Sprie (DN18). When In Baia Sprie, follow the rightward indicator to Cavnic (DJ184) , and then again the bron monument indicator to Plopis.
